Established in 1961, the Temple City store is the original California Mama Petrillo’s restaurant created by son Angelo Petrillo and his wife Jean. The couple continued to work together making pizzas until 1982 when they retired and turned over the reins to their eldest son John who continues to run it today. It is located on the south side of Las Tunas Drive, just East of Rosemead.

It is a small store (seating 80-84) with an intimate setting that looks like a picture from the ‘Spaghetti Scene’ in Lady and the Tramp – perfect for your own date night or for a small family gathering. The motif is that of an old world Italian bistro – a taste of Little Italy – with rich dark wood and bright colorful neon signs.

Mama Petrillo’s is the last American restaurant in the area.

In 2001, grandson and current owner – John Petrillo – decided to open a second location in La Verne. It is located on the north side of Foothill, just West of White/Fruit street. The location is a large, open area (6700 sq. ft. seating 136) that was designed to represent the light airy feel of an Italian Villa. The hand-painted motif is of brick walls and archways covered with golden plaster that has cracked and fallen over the ages. Strands of ivy crawl up the walls reaching for the sky. The seating includes plush booths as well as marble-inlaid wooden tables and chairs that can be rearranged for large parties.

The La Verne store also includes JP’s (John Petrillo’s) Sports Bar which is separated from the dining area by a short hallway and a closed door. JP’s Sports Bar was created in 2001 as a part of the La Verne store by grandson and current owner – John Petrillo. The Sports Bar features marble countertops and lush woodworking hand-crafted by one of the local patrons. It has a booth going around the outside wall with several small tables and chairs and seats 50. There are 7 TVs on the walls – each with its own tuner and sports package. This means that you will always find your favorite team playing. You can also find large amounts of sports memorabilia hanging from the walls.

JP’s is a full bar serving beer, wine, and spirits with 8 different beers on tap. Happy Hour is from 3-6pm, M-F, but the full Mama Petrillo’s menu is always available to you during bar hours – even if the restaurant is closed. This includes for Carry-Out. There are always people relaxing and socializing with friends at the bar, so please call ahead if you would like to bring a large party.
